IPL 2022: results of the fifth weekend

The fifth weekend in the IPL 2022 came to an end, and traditionally, a few unexpected results took place in the league.

Thus, everything began on Friday, when Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals played a super productive game. Thus, RR opened the game batting first and scored an incredible 222 for two, with another ton from Buttler (116 from 65). Although the chase target looked impossible, DC came to the pitch with a lot of confidence and was close to a comeback, but zero points in the 19th over left them with 207 for 8.

On Saturday, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad wanted to mirror the Friday result but came up with the opposite one. Thus, RCB batted first and made it in a disastrous manner, scoring only 68, losing all their wickets in 16.1 overs (Kohli was dismissed from the first ball, for instance). Of course, there were no problems for SRH to close the game early (in 8 overs), scoring the needed 71 with only a single stump lost.

Another Saturday game was much more competitive between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans. The latter was asked to bat and finished their attempt with 15 for nine, which looked like a poor result. However, GT bowlers did a great job and restricted KKR to 148 for eight, winning the game.

There was only one clash on Sunday, where Lucknow Super Giants faced struggling Mumbai Indians. With a ton from KL Rahul (103 from 62), LSG still finished their batting opportunity not so great, finishing at 168 for six. However, MI was not able to chase the opponent and found only 132 runs for eight wickets, losing another game in the recent season.

The fifth weekend didn’t significantly change the situation in the standings, where Gujarat Titans continued their great season with six wins in seven games and topping the table. Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants all got their fifth victories and continued the chase of GT, losing only two points to the leader. While Royal Challengers Bangalore also stand with 10 points, the rest of the teams now are two or more victories behind the leading group of five. The disaster for Mumbai Indians continues as they lost all their eight games; luckily, IPL doesn’t have relegation, and the most titled team can just try to claim some victories with almost no chances for playoffs this season.
