New Zealand 172/5 (20) – Scotland 156/5 (20). The Britishers seem to improve from game to game, but that is too late, especially in such a tough group of Super 12. New Zealand also looked great, but will it be enough to claim the play-off spot?
Things went good for the Kiwis after Scotland decided to chase after winning the toss. Martin Guptill solely showed a masterclass for British opponents, scoring an impressive 93 runs in 56 balls. It seemed to be quite demoralising for Scottish bowlers, who hit 5 wickets but left the opponent with persuasive 172 runs after all.
However, when everyone thought the things were done, Scotland showed that they didn’t accidentally come to the Super 12 stage. None of their batters hit even a half-century, but all of them tried their best and claimed quite impressive 156 runs in total.
For Scotland, now the tournament is officially over as they won’t overcome Afghanistan or New Zealand. Moreover, they still need to face two heavy favourites of the group, India and Pakistan. Instead, New Zealand keeps the situation with a play-off spot in their hands and needs to beat rugged Afghanistan and not relax against Namibia. One mistake can mean a points’ equality with Afghanistan and India, when the net run-rate will become a decisive factor. Want to know more about cricket and don’t miss the important cricket news?
