Pandya celebrates a record, but Gujarat Titans lost their first IPL game to Sunrisers Hyderabad

The 21st IPL game in 2022 brought a few interesting aspects to discuss. Thus, the newcomers from the Gujarat franchise opened the game batting. And they have the element to celebrate – their captain, Hardik Pandya, made the fastest 100 sixes in the league, delivering maximum points from 1046 balls.

However, the overall scoreboard for GT wasn’t so great, although Pandya made a half-century in 42 balls. The team finalised the score at 162 for seven and left all the chances for SRH to chase them down.

The Sunrisers came to batting with a clear target and did their job well. The openers, Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson, delivered almost a century as a pair (42 from 32 and 57 from 46, respectively). It gave a needed room for manoeuvring for the rest of the batters, who calmly brought the needed result – 168 for 2 in 19.1 overs.

That was the first defeat for Gujarat Titans, who won their first three games in the league. The franchise joined the leading group of four other teams with three wins in a pocket. For SRH, it was the second victory in four games, which allowed them to feel a bit confident in the race for playoffs, although they still have a negative NRR along with MI and CSK.
