The Ashes: Australia smashed England in the first Test

A painful defeat in Australia showed that England isn’t ready enough for the battle against the Aussies. The home side dominated in every aspect of the game and left no chances for the Britons.

A lot became clear after the first innings, where England scored only 147 runs. The response of the Australian batter was more than persuasive – 425 runs and the huge gap to beat in the away match.

However, the second half of the encounter was promising for the visiting side. Malan and Root made a lot (almost centuries by each) as they sent England into the fourth day with the gap of only 58 and 2 lost wickets. But a theoretical success remained on the paper only. After the fourth day, English batters claimed only 297 in the second innings and 442 runs in total.

Of course, Australia finished the game pretty fast. The first ball of the sixth over gave them 20 points, although they lost a wicket during this period. It’s a confident victory by the hosting side, and it’s hard to imagine how the guests can turn the series in their favour. Want to know more about cricket news and don’t miss the important news?
