Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans PSL match preview

The 8th clash in the Pakistan Super League comes with the battle of two leaders in the table. Moreover, both sides didn’t lose a game so far, although they played a diverse amount of games.

Thus, Multan Sultans won all their three matches and confirmed their championship status. Islamabad United is the only team with a single game, but a confident win allows them to be on the second spot due to great NRR.

The team from the Pakistan capital is the only two-title holder of the PSL and surely wants to improve the cup lead with another trophy. So, the opening round of the new season finished with a confident victory over Peshawar Zalmi. A pretty good 168 runs by the Zalmi were easily chased by the United in just 15th over, setting an NRR at the level of +2.463.

The reigning champions from Multan confirmed their quality three times this season. After a confident win over Karachi Kings in the away game, they had a pretty tough clash with Lahore Qalandars, which finished with both teams grabbing 200+ runs. Yesterday, they outplayed Quetta Gladiators, don’t allowing them to chase a 174-run score, stopping the opponent in the last over at the point of 168 runs. The Sultans lost only four wickets during batting, but that wasn’t the most confident start for them. The bookmakers consider the team from the capital as a slight favourite. The odds for their victory were 1.84, while the Sultans received 1.97.

The fact that Multan Sultans played just yesterday is a significant aspect to consider. Probably, the team from Multan took in the head today’s clash, so it looked a bit less concentrated against the Qalandars. At the same time, the United didn’t prove their consistency this season to perceive their NRR as the point that would not drop during the season. Also, one should know that the game will be played in Karachi (not in Islamabad), which slightly drops United’s chances in this clash.
